An abandoned five-star "hotel above the clouds" opened in the Azores in the 80s and was targeted at wealthy Europeans who see the Azores as a holiday destination. Hoteliers overestimated the demand and the main advantage of the hotel ruined it ... the hotel is located almost in the clouds and constant fog and lack of visibility nullified the demand. By the 90s, the hotel stopped working and only security remained on the territory. In 2010, the security was removed and by 2020 only the "frame" remained from the hotel.
